You’ve probably seen them multiple times and thought they looked interesting and even found them t be funny. Cable spools are industrial items that, like pallets, can be revived and reused. They can be used to make coffee tables or side tables and, even though they’re not as versatile as wooden pallets, they can be used in a variety of projects.
Turning a cable spool into a coffee table is extremely easy. Its shape does most of the work. If you simply change its position and place the two symmetrical round pieces on the top and bottom, you basically get a coffee table. The circular gap in the middle can either be covered up or used for large candles or decorations. The effort you have to make for tuning the spool into a table is minimal. It’s why such DIY projects are very popular.
If you like the spool’s original look you can keep it as such. The table resulted will have an industrial-vintage look and it will be an interesting accent piece in your home. If you want to do some more work on the table you can paint it, give it a new finish, maybe a lacquer finish and, if you enjoy being creative, you can even draw the wooden surface or cover it with pages from books or magazines.
If you want to provide some extra support for the table or if you simply want to add some practical storage space, you can use wooden columns to create compartments for books or decorations. You can also add casters to the table and make it mobile and even more versatile. Also, its original design provides with one more possibility. You can use the circular hole in the middle to place an umbrella in it and to use the table outdoors.
