The thing about trends is that, at the time there’s nothing better than filling your home with chevron everything or like I am right now, making marbled everything. My flat is full of DIY marbled accents and I love it! But a year from now the trend may be tired and overused and something new will have caught my eye.

That’s where DIY comes into it’s element. Taking an object you might be tired of any giving it a makeover. All of a sudden you have that new car smell again and it’s exciting and desirable. DIYing gives you the opportunity to take this one step even further and instead of constantly updating the look of an object, you can revert back to the original. Great for trends and ideason a whim. No commitment and a lot of experimenting.

Contact paper is quite possibly the best option for creating this kind of update. It’s quick and easy, and can be used on many types of surfaces. And best of all? It can be removed from any non pourous surface to restore your items back to its former glory. Amazing!

Instructions:

1. Begin by cutting a piece of self adhesive contact paper that is larger than each of the sides combined in one direction and the height and width in the other.

2. Line up you vessel almost AT&T he corner of the contact paper. Leave a little room for error.

3. Draw around the two sides of the box that are not aligned with the edge of the paper.

4. Draw all four sides along the length of the contact paper and then a final fifth square for the bottom of the pot directly underneath the second drawn box. (You can actually do this under any of the boxes but I prefer to make it around the middle)

5. Using a ruler draw around this last box around 1 cm outward from the original line. Draw around the three outer lines and not the line adjoining with the other squares.

6. Using scissors or a craft knife cut around the outer lines to reveal your template.

7. Trim the outer corners of the additional/bottom box to the inner line and make small notches-again to the inner line-where the additional box meets the other four sides.

8. Peel back the paper on the bottom/additional box. Stop when you get to the other squares.

9. Carefully position the bottom side of the container in the middle of your self adhesive paper and fold the excess up onto the sides.

10. Peel off more of the paper to reveal the glue and firmly press each corresponding side against it to stick it into place.

You can get really creative with the size, shape and use of these containers. Use them to hold plants, stationary, kitchen utensils or even makeup. And the best thing about them. When you’re bored it’s so easy to update. So what’s stopping you?
