I am always looking for simple and cost effective ways to add to my home decor around the Holidays. Christmas can be a great time to add some color, fun, and magic to a space. But, if not done right it can feel overwhelming and expensive. I have seen some wonderful Christmas tree decor at various stores. Small things made out of twine, wire, or wood. They are table top and fireplace mantel friendly. But, they come with a hefty price tag at times.
This DIY girl got to work creating my own festive wire Christmas trees. I purchased some flower arrangement wire. This wire is typically used to bunch flowers together. It is strong enough to keep shape, but is pliable. I also purchased a Styrofoam cylinder. It is going to be used for another project of mine, but does the job fine to create this Christmas tree.
Taking the wire and tying one end around the base of the tree form. In my case this is the cylinder.
Then winding the wire around the base, moving up a line each time around.
The one piece of advice I can give you is to try to keep the lines evenly spaced. If they are uneven and one has more gaps than another the tree will lean to one side when all done.
I decided to have one tall tree and two smaller trees. This was just my own personal preference. To make the smaller ones I started the wire on top of the tree form going down. Then stopped midway down the form. Allowing it to be smaller then the whole form.
When done winding it, make sure all wires are as tight as possible around the tree. Then pull it up from the top, shimmying it to move it from the form.
I did it once and made the lines uneven so I had a leaning tree. I simply straightened the wire and started again. My really tall tree sits about 7 inches tall. I had to put a tall and skinny vase in the center to hold it up. The smaller ones stand on their own with no problem.
I added a stick with a star on top into the vase, to make the vase look like it was meant to be. It also added just a little more Christmas spirit to the whole thing.
They are the perfect addition to my fireplace mantel. And the quick and simple steps make it perfect for anyone to add a little winter wonderland to their home.
