The fridge is one of the biggest appliances in the house so finding a good place for it is not easy. Usually we try to put it in the kitchen if possible, although sometimes it simply takes too much space. But it’s not really about the room as much as it is about the exact spot where the fridge it’s placed and the way it’s incorporated into the room’s design.

First of all, it’s important to place the fridge away from direct sunlight because it can heat it up during the summer. The fridge should also be placed away from the oven and microwave because they too produce heat. So it’s ok to put it in the kitchen as long as you keep these details in mind.

Also, since the fridge is large and robust, it takes a lot of space in the kitchen reducing the available storage options. But you can still make the most of your kitchen by adding storage above the fridge. It can be a custom-made wall mounted cabinet or a shelf.

If the kitchen is long and narrow, it would be best to place the fridge directly in front, so there’s enough room for the user to open the door without incommoding anyone and without letting touch the walls or cabinets. But, if you look closely, you’ll see that this is actually not a kitchen but a laundry room so I guess you can put the fridge anywhere you want as long as you think it’s practical.

If the kitchen is part of an open floor plan and there are no walls separating it from the rest of the spaces, it would be interesting to build a sort of oversized space divider which could incorporate the fridge as well as some storage around it.

And speaking of storage, it’s common to see refrigerators that are incorporated into a kitchen nook and are surrounded by cubbies, shelves and even wine racks. Placing the wine racks above the fridge is however a questionable idea.
