Well, here we are again. On the brink of one season’s end and another’s beginning. There’s something about the start of a new season that makes us want to start fresh, turn over a new page, and say, “Out with the old, in with the new!” Especially fall, the season of the harvest and the precursor to the holiday-laden winter, is a time for celebration.

Decorate pumpkins.

Although you certainly can carve the prominent gourds if you want, you don’t have to! There are many many options for incorporating pumpkins into your décor, including painting, tacking, glitter-izing, and yarning. Have fun with this!

Freshen up by swapping out one piece.

You don’t have to change everything to decorate for fall; instead, strategically choose a piece that you can swap out for something more rustic or more textural, like linen or wicker. Think lamp shades, throw pillows, rugs, or even wall art.

Set out candles…and light them!

Zest it up with some granny apple green.

While fall is notorious (in a good way, of course) for its warm, fiery color palette, the season’s arrival doesn’t mean we do away with bright, beautiful color altogether. Quite the contrary. Apple green is a perfect example – bright, cheerful, and perfectly fallish.

Bring the outside in by branching out.

Branches are the epitome of earthiness, especially bare branches that mimic the trees at this time of year. Keep them natural or paint them white for a lovely twist.

Soften up your pillows.

The time has come for more focus on soft, luxurious textiles that make you want to curl up with, in, or on them. Velvet, soft linen, and a variety of other touchable fabrics make for wonderful fall pillow covers.

Go rustic with pinecones.

Their natural complexity and pretty hue make pinecones a beautiful decoration from September through December. Spread some out on their own or group them in a large bowl for a bit of rustic charm.

Glimmer with clear glass.

A great way to counterbalance the sleepy warmth of many fall-hued pieces of décor is to sprinkle in some sparkle. Clear glass is a perfect method – fill the jars with natural bits like acorns, or candles, or even candy for a subtle bit of shine.

Create a bouquet of leaves.

Similar to the soothing effect that fresh flowers have on an interior during the spring and summer months, vased bouquets of leaves provide a beautiful and creative portion of fall décor. Bonus: It’s free!

Add some faux bois.

While real wood is never a bad thing, you can enhance the woodland feel of your home this season with some wood-inspired prints or paper. Wrap a can with tree grain-printed paper, or use faux bois fabric on a throw pillow.
