I love projects thatare functional so if you are anythinglike me, I think you willlike what I am goingto share with you. This DIY wooden stand can serve as atrivet for those hot lasagne pans, a decorative plant base or simply a display stand you can use for anything you wish. Without a doubt, it’s a great accessory to have at home and I’m sure that once you make it, you’ll find many other ways to use it.
I wanted to create something different froma standard flat trivet…something that would add an interesting element to your space. I decided to make it in the shape if a cross, so that it raisesup the item you want to display or hold. If you are following mypostson Homedit, you already know that I’m a big fan of a raw wood finish, so that’s what I used for thisstand.
Two wood planks of identical size.I used piecesthat are 16cm x 5cm and 1cm thick.Electric sawPencilRulerSandpaper
Caution: If you don’t feel confident using an electric saw, ask your local hardware store to cut the wood piecesfor you, or use a small hand saw.
1. First we will need to measure and mark the middle of eachplank. Then, draw a 1-cm wide, 2.5-cm deeprectangle that youwill need to cut out later. Depending upon the size of your plank, the measurements may differ. For boards of any other size, the depth of the cut will need to be half of the width of eachboard. Then, when youconnect them, they will form a cross with the boards fitting evenly for a level top.
2. Use the electric saw to cut out the rectangle. Sandthe wood pieces wellwith sandpaper and then connect both elements. That’s it! Now you can decide how you are going to use it.
