You’re probably not a big fan of magazines scattered around the house. A simple and easy solution is a magazine holder. And whether you buy one or make one, it will clear up the space your magazines were once cluttering.
You can use magazine holders for more than holding magazines. They are also helpful for organizing cupboards and household items like:
Curling ironsBrushesZiplock bags, tinfoil, and saran wrapPantry itemsCutting boardsCraft supplies
Simply secure them to the inside of any cupboard in any room of the house for multiple purposes.
You can use a variety of materials to create magazine holders. Keep in mind you want something sturdy and durable to hold them upright to keep the pages and spine from bending.
You can use materials including:
Cereal boxesCardboardOld wood
With the right tools and skills, you can use scrap metal to create metal bins or use any materials from old furniture to repurpose into a magazine holder.
There are various options for storing your magazines, depending on the size of your collection. You choose a simpler and less organized option by keeping them stacked in a bin, crate, or basket.
If you prefer a more organized system, you can always use file folders or separators in the bins.
If you have a magazine clutter problem in your home, you might find this DIY very useful. There are many magazines racks and racks available out there but I was in a mood to create something a little bit different.
The main idea was to make a little stand for magazines, where they would still be on display and accessible. That way I don’t have to spend hours looking for them, but at the same time they would disappear from the floor and furnitures where they don’t belong.
I really like simple pieces and raw wood as a material. So, I got some wooden planks and made this X shaped holder. The great thing about raw wood is that you can paint it any color, giving it a totally different look and feel whenever the mood strikes. I decided to keep mine as it is for now but I might add some delicate color to it, in a few weeks time, just to change it’s look a bit.
Here is how you can make your own wooden ‘X’ shaped magazine holder:
2 equally sized, rectangular shape wooden planksmeter / rulerlaser wood sawa pencil
Tip: This project involves wood cutting, however, If you are not confident to use a saw, you might ask at your local hardware shop to cut the pieces of wood for you in the desired shape.
Using a pencil, draw on both wooden planks the areas that have to be cut out. They have to be right in the middle of each plank, and their size has to match the thickness of the planks to fit in.
Once you mark the areas, use a tool like a wooden saw or jigsaw to cut the pieces out.
Once you cut the pieces, you can assemble them like a 3D puzzle and slide them together. If you want the peice to be permanent, you can add wood glue and let it dry over night. Otherwise, this magazine holder is ready to use.
The great thing about this project is that if you don’t need it for a while, you can quickly disassemble it and store it in a cupboard or under the sofa. If you don’t want the wood look, you can always paint or stain it in any color you want. I guess we won’t be doing it anytime soon, but it’s always good to have this option, right?
Depending on the size of your magazine rack, you can store it on a coffee table or end table. If your magazine rack is too big to place on a table, then you can store it next to your couch or chair. It’s common to put the magazine rack where it’s convenient to reach while relaxing.
Magazine holders are also known as display racks, display shelves, or display stands.
You might know a magazine stand as a stall or newsstand.
To help preserve the condition and integrity of your magazine collection, you can store your magazines in binders, place them in plastic covers, or store them in magazine storage containers.
To help preserve and protect a magazine’s spine, it’s best to store them somewhere flat.
Tidy up your space to make the area relaxing again. This magazine holder project is an easy DIY you can complete at home.
