The original and sculptural aesthetic of everything designed by Zaha Hadid is unmistakable. Every creation is unique and yet they are all connected by hersignature aesthetic which is defined by fluid shapes and free, organic forms. This consistency is a key characteristic of collections such as Seamless. Designed in 2006 the series exhibits a world of seamless fluidity, bringing forth a new language of design and architecture and reinventing the balance between furniture and space.
The collection was createdusing the latest digital design processed and the most cutting edge manufacturing techniques. The pieces as significant both as stand alone objects and as a harmonious ensemble. As a whole, the series is a manifesto towards a different universe which draws the users and viewers into it. The Gyre chair features this sculptural mixture of hard-edged surfaces and fluid curves which attempts to reinvent the traditional dialogue between furniture and its setting.
This unusual and highly artistic lounge chair has a cantilevered base which forms a seat for two while also featuring seamlessly incorporated back and arm rests designed to double as a sort of built-in side table.
Similar to the Gyre chair in terms of design, the Swash cabinet is defined by the same polyurethane construction and gloss finish. It has smooth and soft curves and two storage drawers with irregular and asymmetrical shapes which become a seamless part of the unit without sticking out in an obvious and primarily functional manner.
Elegant, functional and sculptural as all the designs in this collection are, the Crest chaise lounge also impresses with its sensuous form and aerodynamic curves. It’s a very abstract-looking piece which perfectly combines comfort and style and could easily double as a sculpture or a decoration.
The Nekton stools are a beautiful representation of the main concept behind this collection. They can be used and displayed as individual pieces but also as part of an ensemble. Together, all four form a single, continuous surface.
Whether they’re interconnected or separate, there’s always an emphasis on the continuous and fluid nature of the design and cohesiveness of the form. The forms are organic and the stools share in common a very smooth and seamless transition which allows them to be considered together as a single mass.
Both the name and the design of the Serif shelves were inspired from typography. More exactly, the idea behind the design was to make it look as if the shelf was sketched in 3D on the wall. Inspired by calligraphic forms, this unique piece can be displayed in a variety of configurations, the effect always being an eye-catching one.
The unmistakable combination of soft and sharp angles, convex and concave forms and sculptural elements is not only defining for the Seamless collection. This is a series of characteristics displayed by all others creations of Zaha Hadid Design. The Seamless collection is iconic and was inspired by past projects while also in turn it was the source of inspiration for future creations. One example is the Liquid Glacial chair.
Similarly, the Liquid Glacial table is also defined by soft and curvilinear forms and sculptural identity. The table is made of acrylic and has a flat top which showcases ripples and waves that funnel downward and form tour vortexes that are in fact the legs supporting the table.
In 2016 Zaha Hadid Design created the Kuki chair, a beautiful piece with a continuous form and a very graceful and yet solid look. The chair is made of carbon fiber, a material that’s resilient and very versatile and flexible. A single thin carbon fiber sheet was bent in two directions making it seem as if the chair is wrapped around itself
Although envisioned initially as a bench, the iconic Belu design is more versatile than that. Because it has such an abstract and sculptural form, it can be used in a variety of ways including as a table or even a storage piece. The drawers integrated in its design are very discreet and almost impossible to spot. Originally, the design was produced for large-scale installations after which it was scaled down to also suit domestic settings. It can be used both indoors and outdoors.
