Fireplaces are one of the most popular and beautiful decorations and they can be seen all over the world. Lately modern designs have been created and now fireplaces can be used both indoors and outdoors. Still, these designs had as a starting point the traditional models.
Traditional fireplaces can further be divided into several different categories according to the style or region they can be found in. We’re now going to analyze more closely a series of Swedish fireplaces and see what distinguishes them for all the other ones.
The pictures shown here have been taken in apartments and private homes and they present original fireplace designs. Scandinavian fireplaces could be described as simple and chic. Typical Swedish fireplaces usually resemble a column. The shape is very simple. It’s basically a round chimney pipe and it’s usually white. The furnace always presents two small folding doors and the top of the fireplace almost always features a crown, in the spirit of the Scandinavian monarchies traditions.
Other traditional Swedish fireplace designs include brick structures usually with veneer tiles. There are also fire-domes. Most often these are decorated with stucco and they are usually placed in corners. And, of course, there are some more modern fireplace designs. These are actually large metal stoves or factory fireplaces. They are always black and they have a closed combustion chamber. They are made of steel and/or iron and they can sometimes be electric. This type of fireplaces is also common in Russia.
And last, but not least, European classics. These fireplaces, such as English and French models, are relatively rare in Sweden. Still, they can be found in that area too. And in case such a design is chosen, the owner almost always chooses the most simple and concise finish.{pics from design-remont}
