Autumn 2016 saw the debut of the mixed pattern trend at New York Fashion Week. Interior design trends can often take their cue from the fashion industry. What better way to create a statement piece by making a storage drawer box update utilising a bold mix of patterns in this year’s must have palette.
Here a variety of patterns have been chosen featuring the on-trend colour: green, which is being seen in interiors in a wide variety of shades.

Step 1: If your storage drawer box is a little rough around the edges, you can always give it a lick of paint to freshen it up. A chalky finish paint is particularly great on wood finishes.
Arrange the contact paper, until you find a visual combination you are happy with. Purchasing a selection of tile or craft sized contact paper, can allow you a wide range of different designs, at an affordable price and is perfect for projects like these that only require small quantities of contact paper.
Step 2: Remove the drawers from the storage box and place one of the drawers so that the front of the drawer is face down on the reverse side of the contact paper. Draw around the drawer using your pencil.
Step 3: Remove the drawer from the contact paper and cut out using the outline you have drawn and either a craft knife plus self-healing mat or scissors.
Step 4: Remove the backing paper from the contact paper and carefully lining it up, apply the contact paper to the drawer front.
Step 5: Smooth out the contact paper for a nice even finish. A smoothing tool could prove useful here. Repeat steps 2-5 until all the drawers are covered.
Once the drawer fronts are covered, you can replace the drawers in your storage unit and it is ready to be used!
The great thing about contact paper is that you can easily remove and replace it, when you decide to change your decorating scheme. This adds additional life to your furniture and storage boxes, as they can be updated according to new style trends.
