Introducing a bar in a kitchen is undoubtedly an excellent idea for creating extra work space, dining space and for extra convenience. It is not only the decorative aspect of kitchen bars that makes them so popular, but the utility factor also plays a significant role. Besides using the bar area for storing miscellaneous items, the space will also allow you to set a buffet while holding a party for friends and family.
Designing an L shape bar is one of the easiest ways to create bar space in a small kitchen without disturbing the functionality of the kitchen. The L shape bar provides work station on one side, and the other side can be used as an overhang of dining and chairs or stools. Extension of the counter tops may be used as the smaller side of the L shape bar. However, ensure that there no cabinets on the top of the countertop to block the view. On the other hand, the longest side of the L –shape bar can be used as a bar space with bar stools being kept on the other side. However, the base cabinets of both the sections can be easily used to store miscellaneous things.
A small dining bar for two to three persons can also be created by extending one of the counter tops along one side. Besides having enhanced work space when the dining bar is not being used, you will also have the exceptional benefit of using the space to serve breakfast or snacks to the kids.
You may consider adding a drop down table at the back of an existing bar for creating extra dining space. Metal brackets can be employed to attach a portion of the countertop with the bar back. The height of the drop down can be anywhere in between twenty seven to thirty two inches, depending upon your requirements.
Another efficient design idea for kitchen bars is to build a pass through the bar with an opening from the kitchen to the dining area. Opening up the dividing wall will spice up the décor and make things convenient. The pass can be easily used to set a buffet table when you have guests at your place. Sliding doors may also be added to the pass in order to prevent your kitchen being on display all the time.
