Out lifestyle and habits change with the seasons and the weather in general and we don’t really think about it, it just happens. In the summer when it’s nice and sunny outside we enjoy feeling connected to the outdoors and by contrast, we enjoy spending our days indoors in winter, cuddling up in a cozy nook. What if you had a home that would adapt to these changes?
The apartment, although small, is very bright, open and flexibleEven though the added space is not that big, it makes all the difference giving the apartment a very airy look
The most accurate example in this sense is an efficiency apartment located in Chacarita, Argentina which only measures 25 square meters in total. The thing that sets it apartment from other small apartments is the fact that it can physically expand in summer and contract in winter.
The apartment’s small size inspired the architects to be creative when planning the layoutWhen the doors are open the sunlight rushes into the apartment, instantly changing the ambiance
The apartment was designed by IR arquitectura in 2018 and its unusual structure is the direct result of the new internal fragmentation of the building that it’s a part of. So what’s so unusual about this place anyway? Well, one side of the apartment features this wall of retractable glass doors which can be opened up completely when it’s nice and warm outside, thus expanding the floor plan to also include the balcony.
Multifunctional furniture ensures a practical and at the same time simple and user-friendly interior designIn winter the doors can be closed to give the apartment a warm and cozy feelA small kitchen is incorporated into a furniture module with a door which conceals the entrance to the bathroomThe open shelves act as space dividers and provide storage without closing off the two adjacent areasTo give the impression of more space, the designers chose white as the primary color for this small apartment
The balcony is curved and has a glass roof which makes it rather similar to a sundeck. A delicate white mesh ensures privacy without blocking the view. All of this combined with the chic and modern interior design makes this apartment surprisingly user-friendly while also showcasing some of the coolest decorating ideas out there.
Even when the doors are closed the glass panels still let the light throughThe curved wall somehow makes the view seem more dramaticA few wood accents here and there give the apartment a warm and cozy look while the greenery helps it stay fresh and vibrant
