Shabby chic and antique decor never go out of style. With the right tools, you can quickly and easily create your own beautiful shabby chic home decor! You don’t need any fancy or expensive supplies to create this pretty shabby chic decorative heart. Grab your paint and school glue, and let’s get started.
Unfinished Pallet Style Wood HeartPaint: white, black, pink and lilacSchool glueDecorative Scrapbook PaperWood cutouts: “love” word and small bird
Step one: Paint the heart white as a base color. Let it dry.
Step two: Trim decorative scrapbook paper to fit two of the slats on the heart. Distress the edges of the paper. I used a Tim Holtz distressing tool to “fray” the edges of the paper.
Step three: Brush school glue over the white paint on the heart.
Step four: Press the paper onto the slats. It’s ok if some of the edges curl up…it will add to the shabby chic appearance of this heart.
Step five: Brush the pink and lilac paints over the wet glue. This will dilute the paint and resist the paint in some places, again to create that shabby vibe. Let the paint dry completely.
Step six: Paint the wood cutouts and let them dry. I painted the word “love” with black paint the the small wood bird with the same white paint that I used as the base color for the heart.
Step seven: Glue the cutouts onto the heart.
The wood heart came with a twine string to hang it up. I simply tied the twine back on so I can hang my heart. They would make a pretty piece of decor by itself, or it would make a great addition to a photo gallery wall. You could also use it as a photo prop for wedding or engagement photos! Have fun crafting and creating shabby chic decor.
