Soaring over the Taipei skyline, two chic new towers are home to luxurious residences and communal spaces extraordinaire. With interiors created by one of the most celebrated and sought after global designers — Kelly Hoppen — One Park Towers is among the tallest residential buildings in the city.
Designed by British architect Richard Rogers, well known for his modern buildings, the building exteriors are dominated by glass, which reflects sunlight as well as the lights of the night. One tower is 35 stories tall and the second is 31. The park elevations have external terraces, while those on the north and south feature projecting windows and external shading elements and the east side has city views of Taipei. The balconies have structures that are irregular, giving the building a unique look. In addition, the facade of each tower is decorated with orange laminated glass, making the buildings an exciting new landmark in Taipei.
Besides the residences, each tower includes fully designed and decorated ground and lower ground floors, along with VIP areas in, all developed by Hoppen. The North Tower is done in shades of silver in an overall color palette of gray and black featuring eclectic but very sophisticated details. This VIP lounge has plenty of seating and a stunning view.
For the South Tower, Hoppen was inspired by a palette of gold, which expertly contrasts with black and gray for a dramatic and ornate look. In this south lobby, the golden art installation strikes just the right tone, while in the VIP area, pictured below, the triple chandeliers add just enough metallic glam to the space.
Decorating the interiors for an immense building can be quite challenging but Hoppen set out to make the appreciation for comfort just as prominent as the experience of living in the space. She relied on organic shapes and textures that are expertly layered in interiors that are beautiful as well as inviting and warm. To do this, Hoppen used unconventional materials, including leather, velvet, lacquered wood and a variety of metals. The designs are a sophisticated yet suble fusion of Eastern and Western sensibilities: clean lines, neutral tones, charming warmth and sumptuous luxury. Throughout, Hoppen used earth-tone colors for a soothing environment.
Each floor has two apartments except on the upper levels of each tower, which feature one large unit per floor. Each apartment has panoramic views of the park with spacious terraces. The larger residences have large double-height terraces. Hoppen has designed two gorgeous show apartments, one in each tower.
As an example of this sophisticated yet very comfortable style, the living space is comfortable for everyday living but certainly opulent enough for entertaining family and friends. Ringed by numerous sofas, the living room has plenty of seating and is supremely plush for lounging. Because the living room is in the corner, the spectacular views can be enjoyed from two sides.
While the overall color palette is serene and gray, the office is distinguished by some masterful pops of red, ranging from a lacquered coffee table to the stripes on the pillows and a few red accessories. It’s just enough color to visually set the space off from the rest of the apartment.
The main living areas are separated by partial walls and shelving units, preserving an easy flow through the space. The dining room is further highlighted by the cloud-like pendants suspended over the table in an artful arrangement. The table itself, which seats 14, is made for entertaining and larger family dinners with its built-in lazy susan.
The master bedroom is very spacious and segmented into sleeping and lounging areas. The divider is more visual and perceptual, with its metal grille in the center. This actually allows more natural light into the back of the room where the bed is and still provides a view through to the windows beyond. A coffered ceiling above the sitting area further defines the space.
The sitting area has a variety of seating pieces — a bench, comfortable armchairs and a sofa — all ideal for reading, conversing or just enjoying the view. A good number of occasional tables provide lots of places to park a book or coffee cup.
The bed foregoes the typical headboard options and instead is backed by a feature wall with recessed lighting. The nightstands match the wall finish and are accented with glamorous golden hardware. Lantern style lamps are a great example of the melding of East and West throughout the property.
A spectacular dressing area features sleek dark paneling, a gray floor and ample storage space. Built-in benches and mirrors along with glass-fronted cabinetry make it an area of the home that is transformed from functional to fabulous.
A spa-like bathroom has unique features such as a full wall of decor, a vessel sink modeled on a soaking tub and luxuries like a heated towel rack. Natural materials and neutral colors make the space very peaceful and welcoming.
A second bedroom has a modern canopy bed whose black color makes it an accent in the very neutral space. Large globe pendants take the place of bedside lamps on both sides of the bed, and a sofa backs up against the wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. All the elements create a very open and airy bedroom that is supremely relaxing.
The centerpiece of this bathroom is the unique freestanding tub that is framed by mirrored artwork and unique pendant light installations. The large room has a marble floor, sleek vanity and vessel sinks.
Another bathroom also has a freestanding tub, but in a very different style. The fluted sides of this tub and the pedestal sinks are quite unique and contrast with the black wall grates. Marble flooring and a plumbing tower in the same material ties the space together.
Still another bathroom combines the gray palette with gold accents. The lighting fixtures are done in a golden finish and the tall marble pedestal with a dramatic stripe. The small metallic accents bring out the stripes of the wall tiles in a very dramatic way.
