Vertical storage is at the top of my list of things I want to have in my home when I move in. That’s because I find it very economical and practical. Theoretically, it’s not that much different to have a vertical drawer instead of a horizontal one but you’ll see that it’s much easier to fit vertical storage in the room, no matter its function.
In the kitchen, vertical racks are perfect for storing and organizing spices and other things. They take little space and they easily fit in the kitchen island or wall cabinets.
Vertical storage is not just for small objects. You could, for example, store your bikes on the wall and they’ll take little space and occupy no floor space. It’s even more economical when you have more than one bike.
This type of bookcase is one of my favorites. It’s tall and sleek, takes very little floor space and it can easily fit in the corner of a room. Also, you can organize the books into categories on the shelves just like you would on a horizontal shelf or even better.
The kitchen can never be too spacious and there can never be too much storage space. For things like decorative vases, jars or cups, you can create special storage compartments around the door frame.
Vertical storage is definitely very useful and practical in the bathroom where there are lots of things that need to be stored or displayed and usually not so much space. You can usually find the space for a vertical storage unit like this one, whether it’s by the tub or somewhere else.
Wine racks and vertical storage go hand in hand. There are tons of spaces where you could fit such a wine rack and not necessarily in the kitchen. The dining room or even the living room are also goood spaces for such a feature.
Slanted ceilings don’t usually let you use the walls for storage but you can come up with custom designs like in this case. There’s plenty of space there for a big bookcase, some display shelves and even an aquarium.
Here’s another clever and space-saving storage idea for the bathroom. It’s a system which looks very similar to a ladder but it has shelves which are great for storing towels, bath salts and all sorts of other things.
Be practical and make room for extra storage in your closet. These open shelves are perfect as they don’t occupy a lot of space and they let you store and organize a lot of things in baskets and boxes.
The living is also an area where storage can be a problem. Here we have a very clever and interesting system for storing firewood for the fireplace. It looks good and it doesn’t take up a lot of space since it’s a niche in the wall.
