Every apartment is different and they all share in common very little. They don’t even all have walls or doors that separate the rooms. As odd and unusual as that may seem, it’s a perfect good option for some people. Curious how such an apartment would look like? We have the perfect example.
This is an apartment located in Madrid, Spain. It was renovated in 2016 by Manuel Ocana. His office does all sorts of interesting projects from landscape design to heritage restorations. Guided by a creative interpretation of everything and everyone, the office is the link between technology, art and culture.
The most notable characteristic of this apartment would of course have to be the lack of conventional walls and doors between its rooms and functions. So how are the space delineated you wonder? Through the use of furniture and glass partitions.
These are the only two methods used throughout the apartment. As a result, the bedroom is separated from the living and dining spaces by a steel frame with glass panels. The same thing can be said about the powder room.
Speaking of which, there’s something else interesting about the bathroom. It’s actually a very small space with nothing but a short counter and some storage. Nevertheless, it doesn’t look that small at first and that’s because it has a mirrored wall.
The kitchen is an open space that freely communicates with the dining area and living room. It features an island which acts as a separator between the spaces. Once again, a mirror is used to add depth to the décor and to create the impression of more space.
This unusual dialogue between all the spaces makes the apartment quite special. The choice is not purely aesthetic. There’s a nice benefit to this sort of partitions. They allow natural light to freely travel from one room to another without being stopped by solid walls. As a result, the entire apartment is really bright and airy.
Apartment decorating is not at all easy where there are no solid walls to work with. A lot of the conventional designs don’t work here. However, as always, there are solutions plus there are always the outer walls to count on if furniture needs to be attached to something solid.
