Summer is almost here and to me, that means lots of entertaining at home. I made my own nautical themed rope coasters to set my drinks on this summer. This easy DIY project would be perfect for summer parties!
White RopeCraft MatHot Glue GunStencils (I used nautical designs)Fabric Paint (I used Plaid’s Brilliant Blue fabric paint)
Step one: Coil the end of the piece of rope into a tight loop. Squeeze some hot glue onto your craft mat, and press the coiled rope end into the glue.
Step two: Squeeze a line of hot glue around the coiled rope. Twist and press more rope into the hot glue.
Step three: Repeat the process described above by squeezing hot glue onto the craft mat, then pressing the rope into the hot glue. Continue until the coaster is has reached the desired size.
Step four: When the coaster is large enough, cut the end and seal it with more hot glue. Let the glue dry completely before lifting the coaster off the craft mat.
Your rope now has a plastic, no slip rubber back and a fabric top!
Step five: Place the desired stencil on the rope coaster. I am going with a nautical theme for my coasters.
Step six: Use fabric paintand a foam pouncer to create your design. Press the foam pouncer in the fabric paint, then blot off the excess on a paper towel. Sponge the paint over the stencil.
If desired, use a stiff paint brush to fill in the gaps in the rope coils.
Let the paint dry completely before use. You could seal the entire coaster if desired, but I want to leave mine as is so they will absorb moisture from cold glasses. These DIY coasters would be a fun way to create custom coasters for any party or event! Since they are so easy to make you can create several at once and add a stencil design that matches your party theme or your home decor! Have fun crafting and creating DIY rope coasters!
