Leopard has soared to the top of the popularity ratings as one of most people’s favourite prints. It is a pattern that is filled to the brim with personality. It is aggressive yet playful all in one. If you want to create a room that stands out from the crowd due to its bold appearance, yet is inviting and comforting at the same time, you should incorporate leopard print.
The only issue with this print is the fact that there is a fine line between trendy and tacky. Whether you spend a few pounds on your interior design or you spend fortunes you still want your home to look like it is worth a million dollars.
Unfortunately, the incorporation of leopard print can sometimes make the room in question look cheap. However, there is no denying the fact that if you know how to use the print effectively then the results are simply dazzling.
The first thing you need to do is not be afraid of the print. It is a loud print. It is dominant and eye-catching. You need to play towards these strengths – don’t try and tame the animal. Instead you should make leopard print your focal piece in the room. Give it the attention it deserves. One big and carefully selected piece of leopard print decor is much, much better than lots of random little accessories.
This leads perfectly onto the next point; don’t overdo it. Your whole room doesn’t need to have the full leopard print treatment. Remember; this is a bold print in its own right. It is going to generate attention. People will notice the print, you don’t need to make them notice. One, two or maybe even three (at the maximum) leopard print pieces are enough – no more.
In addition to this, you should think about the room in question. You need to make sure the colours used complement the leopard print pattern. Black and white is a fantastic option. The monochrome scheme truly brings out the brilliance of the leopard print due to its simplicity. Go for colours that are going to let the leopard print shine – not fight for the attention.
And finally, don’t be afraid of playing with different textures. Just because leopard print reminds you of fur does not mean you have to purchase a leopard print rug. In fact, if you are going for a contemporary vibe then something such as a lampshade will look brilliant.
