With a little imagination and creativity you can turn anything into an original item for your home. For example, something as simple and as common as a milk crate can be used to make a wall storage unit. Milk crates are actually often used to store all sorts of things, from kitchen supplies to records and documents. It’s because they are modular and they can be stacked one on top of the other thus saving space.
To make a similar wall storage unit you’ll need some milk crates, 3’’ drywall screws, cone-shaped aluminum drywall anchors and washers of various sizes. You’ll also need some tools such as a 1/8″ or 1/4″ drill bit, a drill, a level, a tape measure, and a pencil. Start by drawing a level line on the wall. Measure the same height in different areas and then connect the dots. Then used a speed square to take two 45º lines off of the level line.
Next, take a crate and drill into the wall with a 1/8″ – 1/4″ pilot bit through any of the open spaces in the bottom of the crate in two places. Then screw into the anchors. Now the first crate is installed. All you need to do next is decide on a design and add the rest of the crates. You can create multiple levels or an asymmetrical design. It’s all up to you. For extra strength, you can tie the crates together through the handles.{found on instructable}.
