Lamps are no longer simple lighting devices. Since people could slowly eliminate their immediate need for functionality things started to get better looking. Our home is very private and it should reflect entirely our taste and our personality. Given this fact people tend to surround themselves in items that mean something for those who live there. Most things are good looking, some are pleasant to the touch and associating them with our interior make us feel better because our senses are spoiled in a way or another.
It is a very well known fact that one item can be very appreciated by someone and not so much by another person, because each individual has its own set of “instructions” in appreciating things. This lamp for instance means a lot for the creator Marine Breynaert because it was inspired by her grandfather’s factory and all the heavy machinery. As you can see the lower part of this lamp is not very subtle or fragile, by the contrary it recreates the robustness of the early century mechanics.
This lamp was made from bronze-colored steel and cast iron to replicate exactly the materials from that period. Not very bulky the lamp’s base measure 8” in diameter and only 1.6” high; the shade is double in diameter and I reckon that it will look marvelous in your living room as well as over the night stand in your bedroom. The price is around 171 EUR and if you ask me is totally worth it.
