To refinish an antique piece, you first need to wash it with soap and water to remove the dirt and grime. You can remove the white rings with petroleum jelly or special products. To remove paint splatters, use a delicate scraper and two pieces or masking tape.

In case you discover missing veneer, fill the damaged area with epoxy. Smooth the putty with your fingers and then add wood grain marks with a razor blade. Then sand the epoxy and stain it to match the color and pattern of the wood.
