Bathrooms are at the heart of most homes and are the perfect place to relax in, if you get the time. However, most bathroom color schemes stick to very traditional design cues. Most bathroom suites are pure white and, if there is another color on display, it is probably blue. Why not make your bathroom over with a different color palette from the norm?

Green works well in bathrooms but is seldom used. It is the ideal color to choose if your bathroom is home to some indoor houseplants. Green bathrooms, well put together, can create a sense of natural calm. The next time you take a bath look over your bathroom to see where green might work within yours.

Accent Walls.

Going green on the walls, floor and ceiling of your bathroom is not likely to be something you are considering. Even for ardent fans of verdant hues, this is probably going to be a bit much. For more effective use of green, go for an accent wall or more, if your bathroom is not a regular rectangle shape. Deep greens look stunning but only really work if your bathroom has more than one window.

Too dark, and the look can become overwhelming. Make the accent wall the one with the most natural light, either beneath a skylight or a conventional window. It is usually best to keep your window frames white, rather than turn them over to the accent tone. If there is no window to utilise with your green accent wall, then install a large mirror over it to get a similar effect.

Lighter Green Tones.

If your bathroom is not large, or if you are decorating an en-suite, then light green tones create the desired effect without diminishing the sense of space that you have available. Paint your walls in an even, pale green tone and leave the tiled areas predominantly white.

Alternatively, you can get the pale green look with feature tiling that has plenty of white grout which breaks up the monotone look. Go for smaller, pale green, tiles. If you are choosing green for your cabinet fascias, walls, tiles and ceiling, then use a range of tones, keeping the palest for the widest surfaces and the darker tones to pick out the details.

Green And White.

Bathroom greens usually have to coordinate with another color. The easiest one to pull of is the mixture of green and white. In bathrooms that are mostly white, a few green feature tiles that are set around a splash back area can be enough. Another strident look can be created by simply using some green towels and resin panels that create a splash of color against a blank background.

Tiling.

Green tiles need not be a plain, single color. Shimmering mosaic style tiles look great with a green tone running through them. Pale green tiles, set against deep, almost black greens set out with geometric regularity, can create a vintage bathroom look. If you have a see-through shower enclosure which offers no other color to compete with it, a fully green tiled wall is a perfect choice.

Accessories.

Green can add a funky or zesty look to a bathroom. Why not go for a lime hand wash basin to complement your green accent wall or tiling? A simple shower curtain can be enough to tie the elements of your bathroom’s chosen color palette together. Alternatively, a green bath mat, with lots of different tones, will unify a bathroom that has more than one green used in its décor.
