There’s something very stylish and very enjoyable about a white brick wall, whether it’s in the context of a bedroom, a living room or any other space. The concept is refreshingly simply and has a Scandinavian vibe which results in some really beautiful and timeless decors. Whether it’s just one wall or all of them, you can always consider them an important design feature and even compile the whole interior decor around them and the vibe they create.

Different Types of Bricks

Bricks can be made from a variety of different materials and they’re of several different types. They’re generally appreciated for the fact that they’re less expensive than other building materials and they’re quite durable as well. There are two main types of clay bricks based on the manufacturing process: sun-dried and burnt bricks.

Sun-dried clay bricks

As you can easily guess, these bricks are left to dry in the sun. While that’s easier to do than having to dry them in a kiln, it does mean that sun-dried bricks are less durable and less resistant overall. They have less fire and water resistance and they’re not recommended for permanent structures. They are however a good option if you’re building something temporary.

Burns clay bricks

These are clay bricks that are dried in large kilns and that makes them stronger and more durable than sun-dried bricks. They’re of four different types: first class, second class, third class and fourth class bricks and the quality gets lower the bigger the number is. The fourth class bricks are of very poor quality and they’re not even used for construction purposes. They’re over burnt and instead they’re crushed and used in the manufacturing of concrete.

Fly ash bricks

Not all bricks are made of clay. These ones are made using fly ash and water. They’re more resistant to freeze than clay bricks and considered better overall. They contain a higher concentration of calcium oxide and they’re also called self-cementing bricks. An advantage in this case is also the fact that fly ash bricks are lightweight.

Concrete bricks

These are bricks made using concrete and the biggest advantage in using them is the fact that they can be manufactured on site. They can also be made in various different colors as well as in different sizes as needed.

Engineering bricks

These are bricks with high strength, increased frost resistant, acid resistance and low porosity. They’re a great fit for basements where the environment is usually damp but they’re quite versatile and can be commonly used in lots of different types of constructions.

Sand lime bricks

As you can tell, this is a type of brick made of sand and lime. They’re not particularly popular for anything other than ornamental details on buildings and they’re not commonly used as a main construction material.
