A lot of us have out dated furniture that is still functional but just looks old and sad. This dingy ottoman is a perfect example. I found it at the thrift store, and it was solid and clean with no stains. It just looked so dated! Since the piece was still in good shape, I gave it a quick makeover with a furry slip cover. This quick project gave this old ottoman new life!

Step one: Measure the ottoman from the ground over to the other side. Do this from front to back and side to side. These will be the measurements for your slip cover. For example, if you measure 48″ from the front to the back of the ottoman and 36″ from one side to the other side, then you will cut a rectangle of fur fabric that is 48×36 inches. I used approximately 2 yards of fabric for my ottoman makeover.
Step two: This is my secret for cutting fur fabric with no mess: use a craft knife on the back of the fabric! When you cut the fur with scissors you wind up with cut fur pieces flying everywhere. Instead, use a ruler to mark the cutting line, place a mat under the fabric, and cut with a sharp craft knife. This will just cut the backing of the fabric and leave the fur intact.
Step three: Place the fabric over the ottoman right side down and arrange it so the ends are all even with the ground.
Step four: Pin the edges of the fabric. You will press the fabric together firmly on the edge of the ottoman and use large pins to keep the fabric together. Repeat this with all four sides.
Step five: Keep the fabric on the ottoman and sew along the pinned edges, removing pins as you go. Repeat for all sides.
Step six: Remove the fabric from the ottoman and cut off the excess fabric. It will be a triangle scrap of fabric on each edge.
Step seven: Flip the fabric so that the fur is on the outside, and slide the furry slip cover over the ottoman.
This quick makeover makes SUCH a huge difference. That sad, out of date ottoman now has a funky, fresh, new look. It looks great with other faux fur accents like a throw blanket and a body pillow. Have fun making over your old furniture accents by making your own slip covers!
