Working from home can seem like a dream come true. But if you have a cluttered office space with no organization or storage/’\\[-, it can quickly become a nightmare. Creating a home office where you can stay inspired and productive can be one of the most important factors to your success. Here are a few tips for creating an organized space.
When you think of office storage, your brain likely goes right to desk drawers and boxes. But if you want to utilize your entire space, you need to think bigger. Tall bookcases or floating shelves above your desk can give you plenty of additional storage without sacrificing too much floor space and making the room feel too cramped.
Particularly if you have limited space to work with, you may have to get a little creative when it comes to furniture in your office. If you don’t have room for a full filing cabinet for important documents, you can use some bins or boxes that fit into your bookshelf and simply fill those with folders and other items. If it’s important to you to keep some personal items on display in your office, you can put them on the shelves next to your files to break up all the work items.
Keeping digital files of any important documents can save you lots of physical space in your office and make it easier for you to find important info. Just make sure you back up everything on an external hard drive or similar system so that you won’t lose everything if your computer crashes. Then you can clear out your space of all the clutter and old documents that you’ll probably never need in hard copy form anyway.
It can be difficult to get anything done when you feel cramped and claustrophobic. That’s why it’s important that your office feel like an open and inviting space. Choose a light and calming paint color. Keep the top of your desk as empty as possible. And keep your files as organized looking as possible. Even ones that are unsightly in general can be mainly hidden from sight with some stylish bins.
Whether you always work from home or just do so once in awhile, your office should be a positive space where you can be productive and always know where to find important items. Following the tips above can ensure that your space is more of an organized workspace than a cluttered mess.
