How to Fit the Most Storage Into a Small Bathroom
Nov 15, 2024 7:52 PM

The bathroom is often one of the most visited rooms in many homes. But it’s almost always one of the smallest rooms, so it can be neglected when it comes to décor. However, there are options to add the necessary storage to small bathroom spaces so that you can fit all of your essentials into the room and focus on decorating. Here are a few tips to get the most out of a small bathroom.

Attach Storage to the Wall.

If you have a small space to work with, then you probably don’t have a lot of floor space to put shelving and other storage units. A simple way to remedy this is just to hang smaller storage units directly on your wall. These can be actual shelves above your toilet area or even small hanging bins to put small items like q-tips and soap if you don’t have space for them elsewhere.

Use Space Under the Sink.

Another underutilized space in the bathroom is the area under the sink. Using a simple pedestal sink might seem like a good idea in a small space, but you’re giving up valuable storage space if you don’t use a vanity with doors or drawers underneath. If you have a floating or pedestal sink and can’t change it, you can still install open shelving underneath to put towels or other small items to keep them in the room but still out of the way.

Repurpose Old Items.

When working with a small space or unusual layout, you might have to get creative with the items you use for storage. For example, you could use an old ladder to store towels vertically if you don’t have the room to stack them on a shelf or in a closet. Or you could use old jars to store small items like cotton balls and either hang the jars on the wall or put them out on your countertop area. Simply evaluate the space you have available and see what items you already own that might fit your needs.

Store Out in the Open.

If you don’t have a full linen closet or enough built in storage space, you only option for certain items could be simply keeping them out on your sink or other open areas. If you have to do this, buy some matching jars or cups so that the room still looks put together and polished.

Just because the bathroom is often the smallest room in the home doesn’t mean it should be neglected. The most important aspect of your bathroom design should be practicality, so use the tips above and think creatively to ensure that you can fit all of the necessary storage into your space.
