The picnic table is probably the most popular accessory for most backyards. It makes everything more enjoyable and fun and it’s actually a multifunctional piece. Use it when you’re hosting a barbeque, a summer party or when you’re just chilling out with friends on a warm evening.
First of all, decide how you want your backyard to look like and then you can start designing the perfect picnic table. If you want something retro, then a long wooden table with two benches should be a great fit. You could also use logs to build the table and the benches.
Don’t just place the picnic in the center of the yard. If the yard is not that spacious, then you should definitely avoid doing that. You want the yard to remain open so kids can move around and play. The table should be tucked somewhere more private like in a corner or near the flower beds.
Build your own picnic table and make it unique. Learn to recycle and repurpose things. For example, you can use a cable spool to make a round table. Build a matching round seat and place it around it at a comfortable distance. Or you can recycle two old wagon wheels, some tractor seats and a few wooden planks to built a truly unique table with rustic charm.
Just painting the table white or black and get it over with can be an attractive idea but if you take your time and come up with a more complex design then you’ll really make the table pop.
Since this is a table you’ll only be using outdoors, then you can use some really interesting ideas for its design. For example, you can have water run through the center and then drain into a pong or you can plant grass there.
Here’s a really fun idea: use chalkboard paint for the picnic table. This way the kids can have fun drawing when you’re not using the table. It can also be fun for the adults. You can play tic tac toe on the table, wipe it off and start again.
