In case you were wondering, the term “sponging” actually refers to the sponge painting technique. It’s one of the easiest techniques to master. Use it on the walls to give the room a bohemian, delicate and artistic look. Depending on the colors you use as well as the type of sponge, the end result can offer your walls either a delicate or dramatic look.
It’s often the bedroom’s accent wall that gets to benefit from using this technique. And there are numerous design possibilities. For example, if you want something subtle and elegant, use the sponge painting technique in combination with a neutral color.
The first thing you need to do is prep the walls. Clean them thoroughly and repair any imperfections. Then tape off the areas you’re trying to protect. In this case, the bed sits in a sort of nook so the sponge painting technique was also applied on the edges.
Although it’s usually just one wall that gets this treatment, you can choose to sponge all the walls and even the ceiling in a room. Perhaps you ca try this in the bedroom in order to create a harmonious and cohesive look that suites the room. But keep in mind that the color should be subtle.
Or only try sponging the walls, leaving the ceiling simple. Since the walls will end up looking textured, it’s usually traditional spaces that can best accommodate such decors. In the case of modern interiors, the sponged surfaces are limited to only one wall or a portion of a wall.
There are all sorts of interesting visual effects you can create using the sponge painting technique. This bedroom, for example, has an arched ceiling and the blue and white combo gives it a very intriguing look. It’s like clouds fill the whole room.
Try using this technique in areas that need a boost in terms of style and décor. The bathroom, for example, doesn’t benefit from many options that allow its décor to stand out. It’s why this detail can rally make a difference.
Sponging the bathroom walls can result in a décor that’s dramatic but only if the colors used suggest that too. A light, pale color will make the pattern very subtle, almost unnoticeable.
