Recycling is definitely an important matter and it’s very inspiring to see how big names showcase this concern for the environment. It’s why seeing recycled materials in commercial spaces is that much more inspiring. It gets you psyched about doing something similar yourself. Commercial spaces are one of the best spaces for influencing and inspiring people to adopt a certain attitude towards something.
Let’s start with the Pizzikotto restaurant located in Italy. It was designed by Andrea Langhi and it features a very interesting interior with all sorts of recycled materials. Most of the wood used here comes from packaging and the bathroom is a shipping container.
What’s also interesting is that water bottles were sued as pendant lamps and the whole space has a casual and fun look.
SoleRebels Store.
This is SoleRebels, a store located in Barcelona, Spain, where shoes are being displayed shelves made of recycled wooden pallets and where the atmosphere is very warm and natural. Other recycled materials used for the project include ropes, wheels and a U-shaped iron form.
The store was designed with minimal resources, neutral colors and a sustainable décor. It was a project byDom Arquitectura+ Asa Studio.
Next we travel to New Zeeland where we find this great Levi Straus pop-up boutique. It was designed byRCGand it’s located in Auckland. The main challenge for the project was to design the store at a minimal cost so, in order to do that and to also incorporate the company’s classical and cool philosophy, the architects chose to use materials such as raw wood, rope, recycled furniture and pallets.
Next on our list is the Glore store byMarcos Aretio& Udo Kloos. It’s located in Stuttgart and it’s the first sustainable clothes store in Germany. The concept for the interior design was inspired by bicycles. The interior design was created using fruit boxes, recycled cardboard for the lighting fixtures and lots of old bicycles which were taken apart and used creatively throughout the store.
Although strange to see this 6 meter long shipping container in the heart of New York, once you discover what’s hidden inside it you realize it deserves that spot. This is the SnackBox, a transportable restaurant designed byÆDIFICA&MüvBox.
It definitely stands out with its design, especially because it was a sustainable project created with recycled materials, from the container to numerous other features.
This is the M.B. Post Restaurant and it’s located in what used to be theManhattan Beach Post Officebuilding. The restaurant was a project by SJ Jones Architects and it was designed with a vintage décor and using reclaimed materials. The walls are covered with reclaimed barn wood and the light fixture was made from an old 1954 bicycle. Also, the room partitions are old-fashioned mail slots.
Duas de Letra Café is located in Porto, Portugal and it was designed by Bernardo Amaral. It’s a very cozy space with plants climbing the walls and an interesting interior design created with simple materials. The architect chose to use reclaimed materials such as the old doors, the iron staircase as well as other elements and this contributed to the revitalization of the space.
