When deciding on the choice of flooring, most of us tend to take into consideration factors such as durability, easy maintenance, attractive, color, etc and ignore the factor – hygiene.
Well, frankly speaking, selecting a hygienic flooring is as important as selecting a flooring which is attractive, durable, attractive and easy to maintain. Healthy and hygienic flooring options do not allow allergens to collect in our homes, and thus reduce allergic reactions and enhance the air quality of the home.
There are several healthy and hygienic options available for flooring. All of these are eco friendly as they have been created from renewable sources of energy.
Bamboo flooring –
Bamboo is a renewable material, which is also a type of pre- finished hardwood. As the material is pre-finished, this makes the flooring free from harmful chemical processes, and also provides more durable and better finish flooring. Another significant feature of bamboo flooring is that it is light on the pocket and is easy to maintain.
Cork flooring –
The bark of cork oak is stripped to manufacture cork flooring. The growth of the tree is not hindered, and the cork grows back again. The life span of a cork oak tree is almost more than hundred years, but the tree must grow for twenty years before it can be stripped. Cork bark oak is generally used wine companies to manufacture cork oak. The leftover pieces from the manufacturing process are closely bound together to manufacture cork flooring. Sealants used by the flooring manufacturers during the manufacturing process prevent dust, dirt and water to collect in the grooves of the flooring.
Recycled glass flooring –
Recycled glass flooring is also a popular choice as healthy and hygienic flooring. Recycled glass does not feature any free spaces, grooves or pores, and thereby does not allow dust, debris and allergens to collect.
Hardwood flooring –
Hardwood flooring manufactured with the use of carcinogen and low emission adhesives, finishes, and sealants are options for healthy flooring. In addition, hardwood flooring is also known to be an excellent selection for households with pets and children.
Marmoleum –
Marmoleum is another all natural option for healthy flooring. The company uses only natural resources to manufacture tiles. Solvent free and low emission adhesives are used to bind the materials together. The flooring option is available in various styles that include typical tiles and also long flooring panels.
