Hanging Planter from CeilingSupplies to create a wooden hanging planter

Supplies you’ll need to build a hanging planter:

Wooden bowl (like a kitchen salad bowl)Rope or cordDrillDrill bit (large enough to accommodate rope)PlantPlastic, glass, or ceramic bowl (that fits inside wooden bowl)ScissorsPencilTape measureHook (if not already in ceiling)

How to build and hang planters from the ceiling:

Step 1: Meassurements

Use a pencil to measure and mark 3 holes equal distance apart around the bowl. If needed you can use a sewing tape measure (that is flexible) to measure and mark your holes if you want to be precise, otherwise you can eyeball it.

Step 2: Drill the bowl

Holding the bowl steady, drill holes at each of the marks you made. You may want to prop the bowl on it’s side against a wall or sturdy box while drilling the holes to keep it from slipping.

Step 3: Prepare the rope

Measure and cut 3 pieces of rope in equal size. You will likely want to measure where you would like your plant to hang from your ceiling and double that measurement with your rope length. Thread one of the rope pieces through each of the holes.

Step 4: Knot

Tie a knot with each of the rope pieces threaded through each hole. Try to tie the knot as tightly as possible to ensure that no length is lost and each loop (through each hole) remains equal in size. This will help it to hang straight when you move on to the next step.

Step 5: Add plants

Place your plant into a bowl (preferably plastic, ceramic, or glass to keep water and soil well contained so that the wood does not rot) and put it into the wooden bowl. Pull up the rope pieces and hang on your hook.

Step 6: Hooks for hanging plants

To hang. gently alternate the knots so that they are not all sitting on top of each other but rather just slightly lower or higher than the others (in terms of where they are on each individual loop). If you need extra length you and use one piece of rope to tie all the knots together and loop up at the top. Make any adjustments as needed to even out your planter so that it hangs straight. Make sure it’s close to light so that your plant can properly grow and water according to each individual plant’s needs!
