If you’re struggling to find a use for an empty corner in one of the rooms, creating a reading nook could be a lovely idea. Corners are intimate and cozy and that only amplifies when you add comfortable furniture and accessories. A relaxation corner can fit nicely in a living room or in a bedroom and would also be quite easy to set up. Let’s have a look at a few design and decor ideas and get some inspiration.
Make the reading corner extra comfortable and cozy by adding a lounge chair with soft cushions and extra pillows which you can add if needed. This can be the centerpiece of the space and you can complete the area with a small table and a lamp.
If there’s enough space for it, a small daybed or some sort of lounger that lets you lie down with a book or with your tablet would sure be nice. Keep some extra pillows and a blanket nearby in case you want to be extra warm and cozy.
For smaller reading corners a simple armchair would work too. This one has an elegant and chic design, with a slender metal base, curved plywood back and a soft seat cushion. The slender side table complements it really well with its hourglass-inspired figure.
Besides the comfortable seating arrangements, another detail to focus on when furnishing and decorating your reading nook is the lighting. A floor lamp or a table lamp would be perfect for this space. It would be cool if you were able to adjust the angle at which the light is projected for maximum comfort when reading.
The cozy relaxation corner can also be a multifunctional space. It could include the comfortable seating we’ve been mentioning so far but also a few other elements such as a vanity or a cabinet. It could also have two chairs so two persons can read together or have a conversation in here.
You don’t necessarily need an empty room corner for this. a little nook or a spot where you can fit a comfy chair would do, even if it’s right by a console or a wall unit. A few decorations on the walls could look nice too, perhaps some sort of artwork, a shelf or a planter.
It’s also worth considering a chair and footstool combination. It’s great to be able to put your feet up and lie back while you’re reading a book or maybe watching a video, checking out something online and so on. A small side table could go alongside the chair and could have a lamp on it.
You can also add a small area rug to create a border around this space and to add a soft and pleasant texture to it. This could also be an opportunity to add more color to your reading nook or to experiment with various different patterns.
The colors and textures that you use for this space are very important. Soft and subdued colors and darker nuances create a relaxing and comfortable ambiance and look nice in dim lighting. Soft textures or matte finishes also have a comforting effect.
There are lots of different varieties to consider for each of the elements you want to include in the reading corner’s design. The chair for example could be big, small, have armrests or not and so on. The table can also have different heights, shapes and can include some sort of storage like a shelf for example.
Warm colors such as orange, red, yellow or brown would be a nice fit for a relaxation corner and you can mix and match several of them to create a nice combo. Play with contrasting nuances or different nuances of the same color to create interesting visual effects. Take everything into consideration including the colors of the walls, the flooring, all the furniture and the little accessories and decorations. Every little detail matters.
This doesn’t need to be a small space in order to feel warm and cozy. It could be similar to a small seating area with a couple of chairs or a loveseat and a coffee table in between. It could be framed by an area rug and you could add various accessories and decorations to it. Here the curtains create a really nice backdrop.
This is such a beautiful and sophisticated-looking space. It’s a nice use of the corner area, with the dark backdrop below and the gray on the top of the walls. The loungers are of course the centerpieces, featuring these very artistic leaf-inspired designs. The subtle lighting is also creating a very artistic image.
To simplify things, all a reading corner or a relaxation nook really needs is something comfortable to sit on and a small table or a surface on which to place a book, a lamp or various other small items. Everything is customizable and more elements can be added based on the circumstances.
