Functionality And Aesthetics Reconciled In A Modern Apartment Setting
Nov 21, 2024 4:30 AM

Guided by the belief that every apartment or house should be designed to make the world more beautiful, architecture and interior design studio I-project focuses on projects that are harmonious and holistic. They completed this wonderful apartment in Minsk, Belarus in 2015 and it incorporates all the things they believe in.

A well-designed apartment should combine functionality with aesthetics, cozyness with comfort and luxury with elegance in ways that seem natural and should be a display of its owners’ character, attitude and life style. This could very well be an accurate description of this stylish apartment.

Its interior is organized into two zones separated by the entrance hallway. On one side there’s the day zone and on the other lies the night zone. The day area includes the three usual spaces: living room, dining area and kitchen while the night volume is composed of bedroom and bathroom spaces.

The hallway acts as a buffer between these two zones, allowing the private rooms to stay more intimate and blocking the noise from the social spaces, thus also maintaining a calm and relaxing ambiance in the bedroom.

The social zone is large and open. A spacious lounge space occupies a big section of the floor plan. It features a comfortable sectional sofa with fabric upholstery and a gray color which matches the area rug. Two coffee tables made of tree trunks add texture to the décor, being deliberately left unvarnished for that very purpose.

The lighting fixtures in the apartment are eye-catching. The lamp in the corner of the lounge space is particularly interesting. Its design makes it look a little bit like a drum set.

The adjacent dining space is illuminated with a series of Skan pendant lamps which have designs that return to the basic and simple shapes and stand out thanks to their sleek and pure lines and forms.

A little bit of color is added to this zone by the bar stools. They complement a black counter surface with a built in induction cooktop. The bar is an extension of the kitchen counter, allowing the transition between the kitchen and the dining and living areas to be less abrupt.

Light and breezy curtains can cover up the large windows without completely blocking the view or the light. They feature a discreet pattern and a warm color that matches the rest of the color palette in this volume.

The apartment benefits from a beautiful view of the Svisloch river and the suburb and because one of the main goals of the project was to connect the apartment to its natural surroundings, this particular detail is defining for the space.

Only natural and Eco-friendly materials were used throughout. They mostly include wood, glass, stone and metal. Wood was used for the flooring and the kitchen counter is made of tempered glass.

The night zone is defined by similar characteristics. The master bedroom features a glass partition which separates it from the en-suite bathroom. It’s a layout that’s specific to contemporary interiors and which emphasizes the overall openness of the décor.

The bedroom has its own eye-catching light fixture: an Aim chandelier which, thanks to its long cables, can be customized in all sorts of interesting ways so that the entire room is evenly illuminated.

Whenever there’s a need for privacy in either of these spaces, long brown curtains can provide that. It’s a casual and flexible way of dividing two spaces without turning them into completely independent rooms. Further more, the natural silk curtains lined with black cotton can turn the room completely dark.

There’s a built-in speaker in the bathroom ceiling, a hint that the apartment is not only very elegant and stylish but also smart and tech-savvy. The bathroom is spacious, open and exquisite just like every other space in the apartment.

The wooden accent wall is an element that softens the dark and raw color palette while the white floor tiles brighten up the room. A generous walk-in shower with a glass partition occupies one of the corners while the freestanding tub is placed on the opposite side of the room.
