Five Seating Ideas Suitable For A Bathroom
Five Seating Ideas Suitable For A Bathroom

Although most homes have toilet in the bathroom which can be used as an impromptu seat, most people feel a little awkward about using them that way, no matter how comfortable the cover may be to sit on. In many bathrooms, there is not anywhere that is really suited to a sit down. This is, of course, fine because the bathroom is not really used as a sitting room.

However, wet rooms and luxury bathrooms, that have a more self indulgent approach to their design, can benefit from the addition of a seat that will encourage you to linger.

Being able to sit down whilst fixing your hair or applying your make up can make for a more relaxed atmosphere, for instance. And for a bathroom that will be used by elderly residents or guests, that addition of some seating can simply make the room more comfortable to occupy.

Sitting In The Shower.

Most shower cubicles are designed for the occupant to stand in, but a simple seat can really help if you are a little infirm, or simply want to take your time. For the easiest seat, that costs very little to install, simply retro-fit a water proof box within the shower cubicle. So long as it does not interrupt water flow it will do the job.

For showers that will be shared by those who that want the use of a seat and those who won’t, a pull-down bench seat is best. Slatted ones are ideal since they don’t trap moisture. In larger, or purpose built, showers set aside a corner that can be used permanently as a seat, or shelf, as preferred.

Seats Over Storage Unit

No room for a seat in your bathroom? Simply install a couple of well-fitting cushions over your storage units counter top to create the perfect rest area. A banquette seat, like this, won’t prevent you from accessing all your bathroom stores and they look great if you fit them under windows. Use cushions that are covered in a water proof material so that they are longer lasting.

Wooden Seating.

The warmth of wooden seating makes it an ideal material for a bathroom environment and it looks great, too. If you have a slatted bench in your shower, for instance, try to match the wood stain with your cabinets’ fascias to get a coordinated look.

Alternatively, use a Japanese inspired wooden stool which can be a great place to keep your towel dry as well as allowing you a quick rest. For a sophisticated look, suited to a large bathroom, install bench seating on two walls around your bath tub and fit under lighting to make the most it. A simple fold up wooden seat/shelf will also get you a spa-look that won’t break the bank.

Use The Bath Tub.

Your bath tub may be all the seat you need if you use it well. A tub that extends a seating area at one end can make the perfect addition to a shower enclosure, for example. And if you have room, it can extend in four directions, making for a large seating area surrounding the tub. Or, how about wooden bath cladding or a bath-lip that can double as bathroom seats?

Chairs.

Integrating seating with the rest of your bathroom helps get a well designed look, but there’s nothing wrong with simply adding an occasional chair, either. For a vintage look, that works well with a claw foot tub, use a reproduction Queen Anne chair with a coordinating foot stall.

A simple wooden chair, set next to the tub, will help you get a rustic look. In a white bathroom, go for an armchair with cotton covers that you can easily remove and launder. And if your bathroom is large enough, then why not go for his and hers chairs arranged symmetrically?
