Extraordinary Kitchens With Cantilevered Islands
Nov 17, 2024 12:45 AM

Cantilevered houses are really cool and quite popular right now but they’re not the only ones. It’s not just large cantilevered structures that look amazing but also smaller ones that you can include in your design. The cantilevered kitchen island trend proves it. Check out below some of the most incredible designs that define this category.

This cantilevered kitchen island was created by KC Design Studio for a modern apartment located in Taipei, Taiwan. They wanted this to be a multi-height island so they have it a solid and robust base and then extended it to the side, creating this floating table.

Studio BeauConcrete created something really amazing here: a cantilevered kitchen island made of concrete. Of course, the choice of material alone is not exactly revolutionary. The design however and the way in which the island seamlessly blend into the concrete floor make this an outstanding piece. They named this island The Curve.

This contemporary residence located in Valle de Yunguilla, Ecuador also has a very interesting-looking island in the kitchen. The island has a two-tier countertop made from solid wood. It cantilevers on both sides, creating this floating table that extends towards the living and dining area. This was a project completed by URAN & HERMIDA Arquitectos Asociados.

Similarly, this residence from Osice, in the Czech Republic also has an amazing kitchen with an eye-catching island. What’s nice in this case is that the kitchen and the dining room were combined into a single multifunctional space centered around this cantilevered island. This was a design created by studio OOOOX.

Here’s another cantilevered kitchen island, this time with a super sleek countertop. It’s a large piece but it doesn’t overpower the kitchen. The open layout helps in that sense but the island itself is also very well-balanced in that regard.

Cantilevered kitchen islands definitely have the wow factor but looks aren’t the only thing that sets them apart from other designs. They’re also very practical and convenient, especially if they double as dining tables. A nice example is the island added by Taylor Smyth Architects to this amazing kitchen.

Not all cantilevered kitchen islands have to be super massive and to have sculptural designs. This one for example is quite modest compared to others but that’s doesn’t make any less charming. We love its glossy white top and the fact that it adds a welcoming and cozy touch to the kitchen. This was a project by MAS Design.

This eat-in kitchen also takes advantage of its elegant cantilevered island. The island is not very large but manages to become the focal point of the room. The white marble top matches the rest of the countertops in the same way the wooden base matches the cabinetry.

Studio Justin Loe Architects designed a magnificent kitchen in Sydney which has this stylish island at its core. The actual island part of this piece is minimalist and white but the interesting part is the cantilevered table extension which sits perpendicular to the island base.

The biggest part of this kitchen island designed by Western Cabinets is a compact and solid block with built-in storage, a sink and other useful features. A cantilevered section comes into the continuation of the black countertop, allowing the island to extend even more without becoming too robust.

This entire kitchen island appears to be floating in mid-air. It’s a very cool visual effect created with the help of a mirrored base. The base is smaller than the body of the island, allowing almost a third to cantilever to one side.

This is another very stylish kitchen island, one which manages to stand out without being opulent and without being very large. The LED accent lighting gives the impression of a floating base and the white marble top adds an elegant and refined touch to the design.
