Mirror, mirror on the wall who is the most beautiful of all? I guess everybody heard about this famous question which appeared in the well-known fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Now you can ask your own DIY Rope Mirror the same question and who knows maybe you will be happy about the answer!All you need is : an Ikea’s GRUNDTAL stainless steel framed mirror, rope, large eye hooks, door knob, glue, 3, 1/2 inch nails, picture hanging wire, picture hanging hook, wax cord, drill, hammer, screw driver.
First you attach heavy duty picture wire to the back of the mirror, and secure a heavy duty picture hook to the wall.
Next you hang the mirror, and measure a half an inch on either side where you marked where you wanted each eye hook to go. Then you measure 1 foot directly above the center of the mirror where you marked the spot where you wanted the top of the rope to hit.
Then you take the mirror off the wall, pre-drill holes, and then screw the eye hooks into the wall. Next you screw a regular screw into the wall at the place you have marked for the top of the rope to hit.
You fill the cavity of an antique doorknob with glue and place it over the screw in the wall (purely decorative, the doorknob does not actually hold any weight, just masks the screw like a cover).
After, you tie the rope to one eye hook, drape the middle section of the rope over the doorknob, gently pull the rope taught, and then tie the other end of the rope to the remaining eye hook.
For looks and to ensure the semi-loose knots did not unravel, you wrap black wax cord around the end of each knot.
If you do not like how the rope sagged, you can hammer a small nail through the center of the rope on each side of the mirror which holds the rope in place. You simply pull one strand of the rope over the nail head to mask it so it is not visible to the eye.Lastly, you hang the mirror on the picture hook.{found on apartmenttherapy}
