Mason jar votives are a wonderful way to add mood lighting to your home. They are perfect for adding a warm, romantic atmosphere to your valentine’s day celebrations, an anniversary dinner or a wedding.
To make these mason jar votives a little more modern, a copper rose paint and XO stencil is sure to add a touch of Hygge to your home!

Step 1: Make a layer of painters tape on the self healing mat, large enough for your stencil. Lightly press the tape down, so you will easily be able to peel it up once finished. If you are printing off a font to trace, you can put the paper in a plastic sleeve and put the tape on top, like I did.
Step 2: Draw XO (or other pattern) on the painters tape using the pencil. You can either draw freehand or print off the letters in a nice font from your computer.
Step 3: Cut out the X O using either scissors or craft knife, peel off the excess tape, leaving your stencils ready to use!
Step 4: Press the painters tape stencils onto a clean dry mason jar. You can use any glass jars you have hanging around the home.
Step 5: Turn the mason jar upside down and spray with the copper paint. By turning the jar upside down it will prevent any drips of paint inside the jar covering the stencilled area and allow you to coat the base easily. You may need a couple of coats of paint to get even coverage. Allow the jar to dry fully between coats.
Step 6: Once the paint is fully dry and you are happy that the jar is evenly covered, you can remove the stencils by peeling off the painters tape.
Step 7: Use the jars as vases or you can add L.E.D lights, battery operated candles or regular candles to the jar.
Step 8: Use the sandpaper to add a touch of shabby-chic to the jar paint, or leave them smooth for a clean look.
The lights shown here are warm white L.E.D lights on a copper wire, and give a lovely feel to the room on these cold, dark, winter nights. Whilst the mason jar votives are particularly appropriate for valentine’s day, They can also be used all year round to invoke the feeling of Hygge!
