How to craft the Mason jar centerpiece:

Step 1: How to paint mason jars

The project starts with the painting of the Mason jar. Notice that you need to paint the interior of the jar and not the exterior. This way the outside will keep looking shiny and the transparent glass layer will create a really cool visual effect. Using your paintbrush paint the bottom of the jar and then the sides gradually making your way towards the top. Finally, paint the interior of the rim and place the jar upside down so the excess paint can drain if needed.

Step 2: Sketch a cute design on the box

Next it’s time to focus on the little wooden box that you’ll be placing the jar in. Decide which side of the box you want to be the front and then use a pencil to lightly sketch a design on it. We went with something simple: a handwritten “home” at the center. Then take a thin brush, dip it in some black acrylic paint and outline the design with it.

Step 3: Paint a few cute flowers and details

Of course, just the “home” would be too simple and wouldn’t really add a lot to the design of this centerpiece. So go ahead and add more details to your little box. We decided to paint a few little flowers at the top. We started with a blue flower at the center, then we added a couple of light blue ones on either side and a few pink ones in between those as well. We also painted the stems and added some yellow details as well.

You can use yellow paint for the center of the flowers to symbolize the pollen. You can also paint different kinds of flowers with different shapes and use a variety of colors. Try to combine nuances that go well together but that also contrast with each other so each element can stand out on its own.

You can also paint more details or patterns on the sides as a way to fill the canvas and to distribute more colors evenly.

Step 4: Measure and cut some jute ribbon to decorate the mouth of the jar

It’s time to shift the focus back on the Mason jar. Take a piece of jute ribbon and fold it in half to make it thinner, then wrap it around the mouth of the jar and cut it to size. Also, prep your hot glue gun because you’re going to need it right after it.

Step 5: Glue the ribbon onto the jar

Take your hot glue gun and apply thin lines of glue along the rim of the jar around the outside. Then press the folded ribbon onto the glue making sure both layers stick to it. Add a bit more glue to secure the ends and check all the sides carefully.

Step 6: Make a little bow out of lace ribbon

Cut a piece of thin lace ribbon and shape it into a little bow. Take another piece of ribbon and wrap it around the middle, then tie it into a knot. This will give your little box and nice and symmetrical look and will also make it easy to glue it into the jar later on.

Step 7: Glue the lace bow onto the jute ribbon

Put a little dab of hot glue on the back of the little lace bow, just in the middle, then position it onto the ring of jute ribbon you just added and press it down gently so it sticks.

Step 8: Put the jar inside the box and fill it with flowers

Now all the pieces of the puzzle are done and it’s time to put them together. Take the jar that you just finished decorating and place it inside the little wooden box. By now the paint on it should be dry. Then fill the jar with flowers or twigs or whatever else you want to put in it. The centerpiece is now complete.
