DIY Leaf Bowl Votive Candle Holders
DIY Leaf Bowl Votive Candle Holders
Nov 12, 2024 9:02 PM

Several years ago I tried out a popular Pinterest project I had seen, but I made a few modifications. My leaf bowl turned out so well (and is still being put to use) that I decided to try the project on a smaller scale. These leaf votive holders look dainty, but they are rigid and will hold up well as home decor. You only need a few supplies to make this beautiful decorative project.

Step one: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. This will make it easier to move and dry the bowl later.

Step two: Brush a generous amount of Mod Podge onto one side of an artificial leaf. Place it on the bottom of the bowl. Brush more Mod Podge onto the other side of the leaf.

Step three: Repeat the process from step two, and overlap the leaves slightly as you cover the sides of the bowl.

Step four: When the bowl is covered with Mod Podged leaves, cover it with another piece of plastic wrap. Pull the plastic wrap tightly to hold the leaves in place. This will prevent the leaves from sliding off the bowl while they dry. Let the bowl sit for at least 12 hours.

Step five: Keeping the plastic wrap on the leaves, remove the leaves from the bowl, and now place them inside the bowl you are using as a mold. You’ll see that the outer edges are dried, but the center is still wet. Carefully remove the top layer of plastic wrap so the center can dry. Leave the leaf bowl inside the plastic bowl so it won’t lose it’s shape as it dries. Let it dry for several hours.

Step six: Take the leaf bowl out of the plastic bowl by lifting the remaining piece of plastic wrap. Place the leaf bowl outside the bowl again, and check the surface that still has plastic on it. The bottom may still be wet. If so, remove the last piece of plastic wrap and leave it on the plastic bowl to dry completely.

Fall Leaf Bowl Votive Candle Holders

Once the leaves are completely dry, the bowl will be rigid and sturdy. This small size is perfect for battery operated votive candles. You could fill them with acorns, or set place cards inside them. Have fun crafting and creating for fall!
