Working from home is a common occurrence these days so a home office can be a great addition to any living space. Although the home office might not make you think it requires a lot of décor (and perhaps it doesn’t), it should be a clean, organized and happy place. Here are some tips to design it well.

Maximise Space.

You might not always have a large amount of space in your home to dedicate to your study or home office. Tricks to increase space therefore come in handy. Use a wall cabinet to store your stationary and books. It looks neat and opens up the room.

Shelves can also be a good idea because they provide more space via storage.

Window Work.

You don’t need to be cooped up in a room – get the natural light streaming in. A window overlooking some greenery is also a great way to make your mind feel fresh. This is especially a good idea if you don’t have much décor in your office because then the window becomes a focal point.

Use Corners.

You really don’t need an entire room to turn into your home office. A spot beneath the stairs can be the perfect place to do your work. It also looks visually appealing. Keeping the colors the same as the staircase and surrounding areas further gives the impression of the work section fitting neatly into your home décor.

Splashes of Design.

A few accent pieces work well in the home office. These can include a striking mirror on the wall or patterned curtains.

Your office chair is one of the most important parts of your office. It should be comfortable and it’s a great way to infuse a bit of décor flair! Choose a chair that brings attention to itself. Let it be a different color or pattern to what is on the wall.

Choose Blue.

According to a study published in Science journal, the color blue has been found to make people more creative. A few splashes of it can help to get those juices flowing!

Make it Neat.

The home office should be a place that remains uncluttered. Placing a desk against a wall is a great trick to prevent wires from computers getting in the way. They can be neatly stacked against the wall. Cabinets and drawers prevent paper clutter.

Go Neutral.

When it doubt as to what colors to use in a home office, settle for neutrals. These provide clean lines. A splash of artwork or color on the wall can be a nice and easy way to bring modern décor to the room.

Office in the Middle of the Room.

The L-shape design is a powerful way of organizing your living space and it comes especially handy in the home office. An L-shaped desk is great for a corner office as it doesn’t overwhelm the entire room. Your office can therefore form part of an existing room with no fuss.
