House plants have a lot of benefits. They can improve the air quality in your home and add color and interest to your decor. Unfortunately, the containers they come in are often plain and don’t do much to draw the eye to your beautiful plants.
There are plenty of more interesting planters you can buy, but if you’re more of the DIY type, here’s an incredibly easy tutorial to help you spruce up your planters. And it just uses some basic supplies you likely already have lying around your home.
Felt strips in four different colors (or more)ScissorsHot gluePlain planter
Start off by cutting your felt into strips that fit just around the planter and measure just under an inch wide. Cut small half circles into each strip, leaving a small section in tact at the top so that the scallops are still connected in a strip. Start at the bottom of the planter and glue the ends of the strip of scallops to the planter.
Then layer another strip of scallops over the top of that one so that the scallops are staggered and not directly over the top of one another. Do this until your planter is covered, gluing the ends of each strip in place and rotating colors. If you’re using a large planter, you might need to apply a little bit more glue in the middle of the strip so that it doesn’t droop down. But don’t go overboard because you might want to remove the strips at some point to switch out different colors or patterns.
Once the glue is dry, you should have a much more colorful and interesting planter with some texture and dimension. You can also apply this same idea to make other patterns to cover your planter. You can make a zig-zag chevron pattern, plain stripes, or basically any other kind of abstract design or pattern.
