Believe it or not, crafting beautiful things out of concrete is actually super easy. Diving into the world of DIY concrete crafts and project ideas reveals a lot of interesting and creative ways in which we can take advantage of the versatility of this material. Today we’ll be focusing on DIY concrete planters and we’ll show you how you can make one for yourself from scratch.

It would be best to just use a disposable plastic bowl for this since you’ll have to throw it out once the project is done. Put your concrete mix and water in the bowl. You can use equal parts cement and water or gradually add water until you get a texture similar to that of wet sand. Mix it all well with a plastic spoon.
Make sure you use the larger paper cup for this and keep the smaller one for the next stage of the project. Take out a bit of the concrete mixture you’ve prepared with a spoon and put it inside the cup. This will end up becoming the bottom of your concrete planter so make it as thick as you want but leave enough space for the second cup to fit inside.
Take the smaller paper cup and place it inside the larger one. Try to center it and fill it with some pebbles or something else so it doesn’t move around. Then take the remaining concrete mixture and pour it in between the two cups. This will form the actual shell or body of the planter.
Allow the concrete to harden and dry overnight and then go ahead and remove the plastic cups that you used as a mold for this project. You can make a small cut at the top and then just peel the rest off and do the same for the smaller cup found inside the planter.
Use the sandpaper to give your concrete planter nice and smooth edges and to get rid of some of the imperfections. Be gentle and patient and go over the entire surface with care.
The final step is to personalize your new concrete planter. Go ahead and prepare your paintbrush and acrylic paints and get started. First we painted a light pink border around the bottom of our planter and we painted the bottom pink as well.
Then we used some white acrylic paint to make a little flower at the bottom and we also used some green and some black paint to outline the little filaments and the leaves. Then we added a few tiny red flower buds as well.
You can combine several different colors to create a custom and original design and you can also pick a different design or a different theme altogether.
