MMXII kitchen is a part of Souvenir of the Last Century collection that re-explores materials and forms
The latest in a series titled Souvenir of the Last Century, the MMXII kitchen merges old and new in a stunning presentation of raw material and minimal aesthetic. Created from iron, a deconsecrated marble altar, plywood, iron pipe, and burners Souvenir of the Last Century explores materials, experiences and points of references, both fragile, lost and strong. Though the materials are traditional, the collection received a modern vibe, dynamics and physical presence.
The combination sink and stove design is composed of reclaimed iron and marble, thoughtfully repurposed to bring new life to the material as well as character to any kitchen space.
Chips in the magnificent marble and scratches on the steel I-beams suggest what functions these components might have had previously. The gorgeous stone has been turned into an elegant and continuous surface that marries the hot stovetop with the cool sink basin. This heavy piece has been installed on top of the rationally composed metal structure. An alloy countertop increases the culinary workspace of the Nucleo MMXII Kitchen and becomes part of the seductive multi-era design.
