Although there are no definitely rules when it comes to LED strips, there are a few areas where they are most commonly used. One of them is the living room, more exactly the entertainment center.
Another common place for LED light strips is the kitchen. Here they’re usually attached to the underside of wall-mounted cabinets and they provide task lighting for the counter space and prep area.
In the living room there are a few different ways of add these strips to the decor. One option is to use them to light up the underside of the lowest entertainment center module which is usually installed a few inches above the floor.
Another option is to install the LED strips on the back of the furniture modules so it looks like the light comes from behind them. In this case it could also be fun to use colored LED lights.
LED strips also work well when paired with open shelves. They really put the spotlight on the things you put on display there and that can turn out to be pretty cool, giving the decor a theatrical and even a bit dramatic look.
It’s less common to see LED light strips installed vertically rather than horizontally so when that happens the effect can be a bit unexpected and thus more interesting and eye-catching.
You can use light strips to emphasize certain architecture or design details in your home. For instance, you can highlight the ceiling or you can put an emphasis on geometry of the furniture elements.
The bathroom is another great space to use LED strip lights in. It’s particularly practical to have a backlit mirror with uniform lighting around it. You can also install a strip of LED lights under the wall-mounted cabinet so the light is projected onto the sink and counter.
LED light strips can also be installed on the outside of the house, to outline certain architectural features or to simply provide accent lighting at night in an uniform and modern way. Courtyards, porches and terraces are all suitable options. It’s mostly all about the looks but the fact that LED lights are also very energy-efficient is something to take into consideration as well.
