The most difficult part about decorating a small home is choosing the furniture. It has to fit comfortably without looking out of place, without making the room feel cramped and cluttered and it also needs to be as practical and functional as possible.
If a room is small, you should furnish it with lightweight pieces or furniture made of materials such as glass. The furniture has to be unobtrusive and to occupy as little space as possible or at least to create this impression.
A lot of times we make the mistakes of picking a bunch of small pieces of furniture thinking that they would look less obtrusive when in fact they have the opposite effect, giving the room a cluttered look. Instead, get fewer and bigger pieces which will give the room a more organized and spacious look.
By mounting your furniture on the walls instead of letting sit on the floor you allow the room to feel more spacious. A few terrific options include a wall-mounted desk, dining table or console tables as well as the forever popular open shelves.
Even if you include large pieces of furniture in a small room, if they come in simple, neutral and monochromatic color schemes they’ll appear to be lightweight and will better fit into the décor. Use white furniture on white walls to make it disappear into the background.
A piece of furniture such as a sofa that doubles as a bed or, even better, as bunk beds, would be an excellent addition to a small room, no matter how tiny it is. You basically get to save a ton of space by having three separate pieces occupy the amount of floor space that only one of them would.
Convertible furniture is extremely practical in small spaces. For example, if you have a tiny living room, this piece will serve as a table with two comfy bench seats and, if you fold it down, it will provide you with more seating space while the table remains intact. And if you remove the table, you can even lie down and take a nap.
A convertible sofas is awesome if you don’t have a guest room for example. It can serve as a sofa most of the time but it can also be transformed into a comfy bed if need be. Even better, it includes secret storage space under the seats.
Tiny homes usually don’t have room for a separate home office in which case a desk is added usually to the living room. But why waste space with a desk when you can have a coffee table which can be converted into a desk whenever needed?
