To say that the Eaves House is a bit unusual would be an understatement, especially if we compare it with some of the classic and traditional house designs around the world. Several details stand out in its case and we’ll go over some of them shortly. The house was actually completed a few years back, in 2014. It was designed by studio mA-style architects and it’s located in Japan which in a way helps to explain some of its quirky design features.
The extended eaves create a series of sheltered spaces that help blend the indoor and outdoor
When viewed from the side the Eaves House resembles a giant right-angled triangle floating above the ground. This image is supported by the fact that it actually has a straight top-to-bottom wall on one side while the other features extra long eaves that extend almost all the way to the ground but not quite. It’s these giant eaves and the style and aesthetic of the roof in general that make this house stand out and give it this unusual geometry.

Looking at it from the outside, the house is quite mysterious which makes it hard to judge the interior. Inside however, the 70 square meters of living space are perfect adapted to this unique layout. The odd angle at which the Eaves House is built allows some of the interior spaces to extend vertically and also creates a nice blend of open and closed spaces. The areas just underneath the eaves is the point where the interior and exterior areas meet.
Inside the house is very open and welcoming, especially the section against the back wall
