A Rustic Modular House On Top Of A Small Forest Slope

Building a house out of prefabricated modules greatly reduces the construction process, saves time and reduces the impact the project has on the site and the landscape in general. In the case of this house located in Ozora, Russia, the first phase was to install a solid foundation and the modules were brought on site only once this was in place.

The design done by studio BIO – architects takes into account the unusual topography of the site and is optimized to complement the slope and to take advantage of the beautiful scenic views. The high foundation raises the house over the sloping terrain and creates an area underneath for a generously-sized storage space.

The beautiful location inspired the owners to want to spend as much time outside as possible and in this regard the architects created a large deck which wraps around the house and cantilevers over the lower section. Slender metal and cable railings wrap around the deck turning this into a versatile outdoor area. Separate from the main building, a small pergola sits off to the side on its own raised deck.

The difference in heights between areas like the lower storage section, the cantilevered deck, the pergola and the general outdoor areas makes this a multi-level residence and creates a dynamic and unique user experience. For the interior the designers chose a light eclectic style that mixes modern and rustic elements. The warmth of the fireplace, the textured coziness of the textiles and the materials used for the interior design and the character added by the antique accent pieces and the furniture make this a very inviting little retreat.
