Although the Roma House is hidden away in the middle of a forest, it’s unlike any typical cabin. It fact, it’s not exactly a cabin at all. You might come across it if you venture into the wooden areas outside Moscow. It was designed and built here by studio buro511, a process which took 2 years to complete.
The Roma house occupies an isolated plot surrounded by a pine tree forest outside Moscow
The design is fairly simple and modern and the more you look at it the more obvious it becomes that it’s quite contrasting. On one hand this feels like a very warm and cozy retreat, a type of modern cabin that one hides away in to escape the noisy city. On the other hand, however the design and the proportions are quite robust and imposing, almost rugged if its weren’t for the materials that frame it.
On the outside its design is clean, simple and robustThe large double-height glass wall opens up the living areas towards the beautiful forest landscape
This duality is a perfect reflection of the owner’s vision for this place who wanted the feel of a tiny cabin in the woods but with solid construction and with a luxurious and modern interior. On the outside, the house features a clean and simple geometry. The use of wood and dark glass on the exterior walls helps the building to integrate with its surroundings and also gives it an inviting look. The pine trees which surround it on all sides form a natural shield that obstructs certain parts of the building depending on the viewing angle. This also adds a bit of mystery to the design.
The interior design is based on dark accent colors which gives it a masculine lookThe living room, kitchen and dining area are all combined into an open and welcoming spaceExposed concrete and stone are used as accent materials in combination with natural woodThe overall design and the finishes are simple and almost austere and yet warm and inviting
The interior makes use of dark accent colors and contrasting materials such as wood, concrete and stone. These are intentionally put together in order to highlight each other’s natural beauty and to create a balanced and harmonious decor. The floor plan is composed of a large main area with a high ceiling where the social spaces are blended together. There’s also a master bedroom with a bathroom and a guest room. The design and dimensions are not excessive in any way but there are any constraints either.
The bathroom features an elegant wooden sink/ vanity and a walk-in showerThe matte black used as an accent color throughout adds sophistication to the design
