Although summer kitchens are not usually very elaborate, they can take on a variety of different forms. The architects and designers from studio Atamanenko completed in 2017 a very interesting project in this regard. Their task was to build a summer kitchen in the courtyard of a country house from Tula in Russia. They also built a terrace between the house and the new kitchen, creating a smooth and pleasant transition between the spaces. The studio chose to use raw and basic materials throughout the project in order to give the kitchen an authentic industrial-inspired appearance.
This summer kitchen has a strong industrial appearance due to array of materials used inside and outThere’s a dining area placed right next to the fireplace which also gets a view towards the courtyard
The palette of materials used includes lots of metal and artificially aged wood with a beautiful, rustic patina. The same materials were used both inside and outside, creating a strong identity and giving this summer kitchen a lot of character. The indoor and outdoor are also seamlessly connected by a double-sided fireplace. It’s framed by the dining area on one side and by a cozy sitting area on the other which also brings us to all the stylish furniture featured throughout this beautiful summer kitchen. The dining table is really interesting because it’s all painted black with the exception of the top edge which features the natural color of the wood. The kitchen furniture from Minacciolo is painted black as well, giving the space a professional, industrial vibe.
The fireplace is double-sided and the roof overhang creates a cozy protected area outsideThe two main materials used in this project are black-painted steel and artificially-aged woodThe wooden surfaces add a very warm and inviting touch to the designThe lighting is pleasant, not too bring but not too subtle eitherThe subdued palette of colors and finishes gives this summer kitchen lots of character and a unique identityOutside, the kitchen extends into a terrace situated between it and the main house
