So you’re tired of the same ole dull, generic cabinet doors. They’re brown, white, black or just plain boring! Instead of hiding all your treats and plates behind the not-so-fashionable hinges, try using some alternatives to the usual wooden slabs and create something different and stylish!
Use something transparent to show off what’s inside … use something with movement to give it some texture … or use something unexpected to give a surprise. It’s all about creativity, what you’re vision is and what you want to create . Try stepping outside-the-box and be daring with your interior. Take a peek at some of these alternative and stylish cabinet doors and snag some much needed inspiration!
1. Take a look behind the Screens.
Wanna see inside what’s inside? Try replacing the usual cabinet door with a screen. It has a super homey feel and it’s very welcoming for guests who need to grab a plate. It’s a bit country, a bit shabby-chic but a whole lot adorable. (Here is the tutorial to do it yourself!)
2. Re-use those beat up, old shutters.
For some fun texture and a stylish, vintage vibe replace old cabinet doors with old shutters. They look great. It’s a fun DIY. It’s fairly simple to do. And when finished, gives the space a bit of a edge.
3. Bits & Pieces of Fabric.
For some flow and ease, try using fabric. When done right, the doors will create a natural, beautiful look and you can finally reuse some of that old fabric you’ve be dying to put to good use! Choose something neutral for a soft look or something bold for something a bit more eclectic!
4. Write on it: chalkboards.
Turn those kitchen cabinet doors (or even the pantry door) into chalkboards. Write what’s inside or what you need to grab at the store. Jot down phone numbers, notes for the kids, practice times and doctor’s appointments. After it’s complete, you’ve got something unique and something super functional!
5. Mirror, mirror on the … cabinet?
Create light and space with mirrors as your cabinet doors. It’ll open up the room, create an illusion of a bigger area and make everything brighter! It’s great for a more modern space or to create a more contemporary feeling.
6. Glass!
Quite the popular choice, glass is a great option when deciding to trade in the usual cabinet doors. Like mirrors, glass doors can create light and space and like screens will create a space to display your fun pots, pans or China.{picture from remodelingguy}.
